British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has traveled to Sweden and Finland to support both countries “firmly and unequivocally”.

According to the paper, the requests from Helsinki and Stockholm to join NATO are progressing simultaneously, which could lead to simultaneous accession to the Atlantic Alliance in a context strongly marked by the war in Ukraine.

“In the event of a disaster or attack on Sweden, the United Kingdom will come to the rescue with what it asks,” the British prime minister promised during a press conference with his Swedish counterpart. Magdalena Anderson Johnson has emphasized that this commitment is mutual and that Sweden would therefore also be obliged to help the United Kingdom, the BBC reports.
Andersson has acknowledged that “tensions” have increased as a result of Russia’s “aggression” against Ukraine and has in fact recalled that Russia has threatened to “respond” if Sweden finally applies to join the Atlantic Alliance, an organization which is seen by Moscow as a threat to its national security.
