Perpetrators arrested – China: 6 dead in kindergarten knife attack

Date:

Six people were stabbed to death in a knife attack at a kindergarten in the southern Chinese province of Guangzhou on Monday. As the state-run newspaper “China Daily” reported, citing police, a 25-year-old man was arrested as a suspect after Monday’s attack.

The attack took place in the city of Lianjiang in Guangzhou province. No further information was initially given about the victims. The investigation is still ongoing, police said.

Attacks on kindergartens again and again
In China, the possession of firearms by civilians is strictly prohibited. However, knife attacks are not uncommon in the People’s Republic. Attacks happen again and again, especially in kindergartens. In past crimes, the perpetrators attempted to retaliate in some way against society for perceived injustice, and often chose the weakest members to do so.

In August last year, three people were killed with a knife in a kindergarten in China. In April 2021, a man killed two children and injured 16 others with a knife at a kindergarten in southern China.

Strict security measures as usual
Therefore, strict safety measures have long been in place in schools and kindergartens in China. There are guards at the entrances. Parents, relatives or other persons are generally not allowed on the school or kindergarten grounds. You can only drop off and pick up your children at the entrance.
