Three people have been killed in a plane crash in rural East Iceland. It involved a pilot and two passengers, police said. The cause of the accident was therefore still unclear.
According to the police, the pilot had made an emergency call late Sunday afternoon (local time). Subsequently, an extensive search was started. According to the radio station RÚV, the crashed machine was found two hours later, around 7:00 pm (local time), by the crew of a Coast Guard helicopter.
The three occupants were therefore pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Radio reports said the light aircraft was a Cessna 172. Authorities launched an investigation.
