Only a few days after the shocking bloody act in Carinthia, the next femicide alarm: in Vienna, a young Austrian woman was found lifeless in bed. Her Syrian partner was arrested.
Huge excitement Monday evening in an emergency shelter district in Vienna-Simmering: After hours no one in the top 9 apartment responded to knocking and calling, the housing management raised the alarm with the police.

What was special was that neither the Austrian Melanie S., who was registered in Csokorgasse, nor her Syrian partner answered the door. “Both were very quiet people, but they seemed very sympathetic and open – you ran into them regularly,” says neighbor Dimytro (17) of “Krone” during a local inspection of the alleged crime scene.
“I live right next door to them. When I moved in a week ago, they invited me to have dinner with them. Melanie cooked rice and vegetables for us.” On Monday evening, however, the young Ukrainian heard unusual sounds: “I heard them arguing. I wanted to check, but then one of the two slammed the front door. I heard nothing else and went to bed.”
Monday evening then the shock: Melanie S. (28) was found lifeless on her bed after opening the door, with bloodshot eyes. Her partner has been arrested.
Suspect denies involvement in woman’s death
The suspect (26) denies any involvement in the woman’s death – according to his statements he slept next to her. And when he awoke, she lay lifeless next to him. The Syrian does not deny that they should have argued. Alleged reason for the conflict: His girlfriend bought drug substitutes – which annoyed him.
In addition, the suspect has so far refused to make a statement. The autopsy scheduled for Wednesday should clarify the true circumstances of Melanie S.’s death. If the suspicion of murder is confirmed, it would be the 16th murder of a female victim this year. Would mean a murder of a woman every two weeks…
