The waiter who allegedly raped an 18-year-old Austrian woman in the northern Italian city of Como has denied the crime. When questioned by the police, the man stated that he had met the young woman at work. Although they were alone after the restaurant closed, he did not rape them, the media reported, citing local authorities.
The police emphasized that there was no risk of absconding. Therefore, the man was not arrested. The police and the Public Prosecution Service are now checking whether the suspect’s statements match the recordings of the surveillance cameras in the bar.
Waiter would have passed on an 18 year old
The tourist was with a friend on Sunday evening on the local mile in Piazza De Gasperi in Como and met the suspicious man there. After her boyfriend left the crime scene, the 18-year-old was left alone in the restaurant with the waiter. There the employee would have remembered her past.
The young woman was then taken to hospital. There, the doctors found traces of a rape.
