A drinking spree in Linz last Friday – as has only just become known – turned out extremely tragically. The men from Poland who were at a convention in Linz celebrated on a balcony. A brawl ensued that ended fatally.
The three Polish citizens met on the balcony of a “conference hotel” in Linz (temporary and contract workers from other cities and countries are housed here) on Semmelweisstraße – presumably to have one or two “after-work drinks” together.
The men would have been assembly workers who always toiled in Upper Austria for a long time before returning to their homeland. On the evening of July 7, around 9:20 p.m. – apparently under the influence of alcohol – an argument broke out between a 36-year-old and his 46-year-old compatriot.
The fighters crashed into the railing, which broke
A 32-year-old who was also present apparently wanted to intervene and would have tried to break up the fighters. In the scuffle that followed, the 32-year-old and the 46-year-old fell against the balcony railing. It gave way and the two men fell from the second floor and hit the hard asphalt floor.
All help came too late for both, they died of their serious injuries. Other mechanics who also stayed at this hotel spoke at the local “Krone” inspection on Thursday about a “fight” before the tragic fall to their deaths. However, they could not or would not say more about the tragedy.
The public prosecutor must clarify open questions
Now the public prosecutor’s office in Linz must first clarify how the fatal accident could have happened. An autopsy was ordered. Why the balcony railing broke is also the subject of investigation, as is the question of exactly how the accident happened.
