37 degrees in Austria – extreme heat: that’s how long we have to sweat

Date:

The “Cerberus” high caused unbearable heat in many places over the weekend – including Austria. In Salzburg, almost 37 degrees were measured in the past 24 hours. In Gänserndorf there were maximums of 34 degrees on Sunday. But how much longer do we have to sweat and what kind of weather can we expect next week? Meteorologists have the answer…

From Monday, temperature-sensitive people were slowly able to leave their air-conditioned homes again – because, according to experts from Geosphere Austria, there was already a slight drop in temperature in the country at the beginning of the week. Already in the morning cloud fields are visible from the west and northwest and on the northern edge of the Alps as well as in the north and east some partial thunderstorms will pass in the morning. Only in the south and southeast does the day start consistently sunny.

Thunderstorms and clouds move over mountains
During the day, however, sunny weather prevails in the north and east during the day, while elsewhere in the mountains the chance of thunderstorms with cumulus clouds increases considerably in the afternoon. The daily maximum temperatures are between 28 and 33 degrees.

Tuesday dry and sunny
On Tuesday, the sun will dominate large parts of the country. Remaining clouds from the night will bring the last showers in the east, but the sun will shine all day here. Everywhere the day usually starts dry and quite sunny, but in the afternoon cumulus clouds bring showers and thunderstorms, especially in the mountains. Also on this day the daytime temperatures are between 28 and 33 degrees.

On Wednesday, the chance of severe weather increases
According to the forecast, it should be particularly humid on Wednesday – this increases the risk of unstable weather, especially in the eastern Alps. With partly powerful cumulus clouds, rain showers and thunderstorms will repeatedly descend over the country until the evening. Temperatures remain the same – up to 33 degrees are possible in the country.

Friday below 30 degrees
On Thursday, the outage will continue to cause changeable weather. Sunny parts are repeatedly followed by dense cloud and there are local showers and isolated thunderstorms, especially in the mountains and in the south and southeast. Friday will therefore remain unstable – the sun is repeatedly shielded by partly high rising cumulus clouds. Temperatures are slightly more comfortable on Thursday and Friday compared to the extreme heat of the previous week: maximum daytime temperatures rise to 24 degrees in the west and 29 degrees in the east.

Don’t underestimate hot days!
The severe heat stress – especially this weekend – should not be underestimated. In Austria, extreme values of up to 37 degrees were measured at the weekend. Apparently it was hottest in Salzburg. But also in Tyrol, Kufstein, 36.8 degrees were measured. In the east it was warmest on Sunday – the sun shone through the entire federal capital with a maximum temperature of 34 degrees.

On its homepage, Geosphere Austria warns of the possible effects of excessive heat stress. The weather service also provides recommendations for action. In addition, the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Public Health, Care and Consumer Protection has reactivated the heat telephone. under the phone number 0800 880 800 gets personal advice to survive the hot season.
