Shock for a mother in Villach: her car had locked itself in the parking lot of a hardware store in the midday heat. Her two jacks and the key were out of reach in the car. The fire service managed to open the vehicle in time.
The mother went shopping with her two sons at a hardware store in Villach on Monday afternoon. She had just strapped her one-year-old and three-year-old into their child seats and closed the back door when she noticed the car suddenly lock itself.
police warned
The key was on the driver’s seat and was therefore not accessible. With the help of a customer and the alerted police, blankets were spread over the windscreen and side windows of the car when outside temperatures exceeded 30 degrees to protect them against further solar radiation.
Disk is forced open
The alarmed fire brigade eventually succeeded in opening a window wide enough with a special cushion to get to the key. “The mother immediately parked the car in the shade and took the children to an adjoining bar to buy them something to drink. Fortunately, no one was hurt,” said Martin Regenfelder, head of operations at the main fire station in Villach.
