According to Ukrainian sources, the south and east of Ukraine were targeted by Russian airstrikes on Tuesday night. Air raid sirens sounded for hours in several regions. The warning was lifted around 4:30 a.m. (local time).
The port cities of Odessa and Mykolaiv, as well as the regions of Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhia and Dnipro, were subjected to drone strikes, the Ukrainian air force said. According to the city’s mayor, Oleksandr Zenkevych, a fire broke out in the port of Mykolayiv. The situation is serious.
The head of the military administration of the Odessa region, Oleh Kiper, stated that the air defense intercepted several waves of attacks. Russia may also have used ballistic weapons to attack the Poltava, Cherkassy, Dnipro, Kharkiv and Kirovohradska regions.
Grain deal not extended
The port cities of Odessa and Mykolayiv provide Ukraine with access to the Black Sea for grain exports. The agreement on grain exports from Ukraine had not been renewed by Russia. Ukraine wants to continue exporting across the Black Sea, even without Moscow’s commitment.
