After the armed bank robbery in Innsbruck on Friday, the investigation by the Tyrolean State Criminal Investigation Department is still in full swing. The two arrested suspects – an Austrian (24) and a Russian (32) – are now in prison. A request for pre-trial detention has been filed.
Friday 10:45 am, Mitterweg Innsbruck: A perpetrator armed with a pistol and a latex face mask stormed into the BTV branch, threatened the employees present and demanded cash.
The search for alarms was successful
After receiving this, he fled on foot. Apparently, he had an accomplice. The police started an alarm search. A helicopter circled above the city.
Weapon and cash seized
Shortly afterwards, a successful search was conducted. In the vicinity of the crime scene – across the street from the Herberg – two suspects were arrested and detained. In addition, a bag with cash, a black backpack with the clothing of the suspected perpetrator and a gun were found and confiscated.
The suspects are a 24-year-old Austrian and a Russian (32). During questioning, the local man exercised his right not to provide information about the crime. “The second suspect denies any connection to the crime,” investigators said Saturday.
Application for pre-trial detention, further offences committed?
The Innsbruck Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed a request to remand both suspects in custody. The duo was sent to prison. Whether the alleged perpetrators are also responsible for previous bank robberies is still being investigated.
