The city council in Béziers, southern France, has had enough of dog owners who do not clean up their animals’ excrement. That’s why she introduced genetic ID cards for dogs. In this way heaps lying on the curb can be analyzed and allocated.
The obligation came into effect this week. If you go out with your dog without a genetic identity card, you will have to pay 38 euros in the future. A fine of 122 euros is due for dog excrement that is not disposed of. There is still a three-month grace period. The new procedure will be tested for two years.
“I can’t see all the piles anymore. We counted. In the inner city alone, we collect more than 1,000 pieces every month. You have to impose sanctions so that people behave correctly,” Mayor Robert Ménard told France Info.
Saliva test for free
Saliva tests are necessary to have a quadruped genetic ID card created. These can be performed free of charge through a quote from the city council and also by a veterinarian.
