Sirens are wailing in the districts of Melk and Scheibbs (Lower Austria) on Wednesday evening. Why? In Steingrub near Texing in the Melk district, a hall of a wood processing company suddenly caught fire. 11 fire departments with 246 emergency services had to battle the inferno of flames – one firefighter was also injured.
The photos from Wednesday evening show that there is not much left of the building. Due to the enormous heat development, the adjacent homes of the burning building also had to be secured. The windows of the houses were already shattered by the enormous heat.
Firefighter injured during action
Using several portable pumps, water could be pumped from a stream to the fire object. A shuttle service with tankers was also set up. Fortunately, neighboring buildings were preserved. One of the firefighters was also injured in the large-scale action. He was transported by emergency services to Scheibbs Hospital with unknown injuries.
Work on the fire object continued into the morning hours. Police are now trying to figure out how the fire started.
