The Viennese police are currently looking for a suspect posing as a fake police officer for a couple. Since his escape, there is no trace of him. Officials are now asking for more information.
According to the police, the suspect met with a bunch of other perpetrators in Vienna-Favoriten and demanded a multi-digit amount under false pretenses. The frightening thing was that he pretended to be a concerned detective to gain access to the apartment.
Possible criminal connection
It happened on January 10 when the couple handed over the money to the wrong cop. Soon after, he ran away. The detectives assume that the man may also be involved in other crimes in the context of a criminal connection.
Witnesses who have noticed the suspect before, during or after his escape are asked to contact the police. Tips (also anonymous) are requested from the Vienna Criminal Investigation Department, research area theft, under the telephone number 01-31310-43800.
