A moment of shock for a mother in the US state of Oregon: an e-cigarette plugged in for charging exploded near her baby.
The terrifying scenes were captured by a surveillance camera at the woman’s home. First, the toddler watches videos on a tablet in his high chair. Suddenly the e-cigarette bursts into flame. Burning parts are thrown at the baby. He is shocked and immediately starts to cry.
A little later you see the worried mother approaching. She yells several times, “What happened?” Then she takes her offspring out of the armchair and goes to safety. Miraculously, the child was unharmed.
Serious injuries and even deaths
But it could have ended much worse. It happens again and again that e-cigarette users suffer serious injuries due to their devices exploding. Some incidents even end fatally. Most e-cigarettes are powered by a lithium-ion battery, which can overheat and catch fire.
