On Thursday morning, officers from the state police headquarters were called to a parking lot in Vienna-Penzing. An object resembling a hand grenade was seen in a car parked there.
Employees of an automobile club were informed of the object. They had just started loading a car parked in the parking lot onto a tow truck.
It was noted that a small box containing what appeared to be a hand grenade was located in the interior of the vehicle near the handbrake. The owner of the vehicle was not present.
The workers reacted correctly and immediately called the police. An explosives expert from Vienna State Police headquarters determined that the hand grenade, which looked deceptively real, was a harmless training model. The article was secured. The investigation into violations of the gun law is still ongoing.
Objects suspected of explosives and war material may not be moved or manipulated. The Viennese police recommend the following rules of conduct:
- If you find items suspected of being explosives or war materials, note the location and move to a safe distance
- Call 133 immediately
