Construction sites and accidents – miles of traffic jams and irritated drivers

Date:

The patience of Austrian motorists was tested on Saturday. As feared by the ÖAMTC experts, there were kilometers of traffic jams and congestion on the main routes of Austria and neighboring countries from the early hours of the morning. The emergency services also had their hands full with numerous accidents.

In Austria, the focus in Tyrol was on the Fernpass route (B179) between Füssen and Nassereith and on the Brenner Autobahn (A13) before the Schönberg toll station. In Salzburg, ÖAMTC congestion adviser Herbert Thaler reported long columns on the Tauernautobahn (A10) southbound in front of a construction site between Hüttau and Flachau and in front of the St. Michael toll station.

Several accidents during the Formula 1 Grand Prix
In Carinthia, holidaymakers had to wait over an hour for the Karawankentunnel (A11) to leave for Slovenia. With the approach of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Budapest, multiple accidents on the Ost Autobahn (A4) in the Bruck an der Leitha-Bruckneudorf construction site also led to a backlog of more than seven kilometers.

35 kilometers of convoy traffic
On the access road to Formula 1 in Hungary, there was more than 35 kilometers of convoy traffic on the M1, link Nickelsdorf-Budapest, for various construction sites, with occasional stops. In Slovenia, the columns on the A1 near Marburg were more than ten kilometers behind. In Bavaria, he was on the A8 for 15 kilometers in the direction of Munich after several accidents in the Chiemsee area.

“Next weekend, the start of the holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the main routes to the south will receive even more traffic,” concludes ÖAMTC congestion adviser Herbert Thaler.
