In the Virgen Valley in East Tyrol, a wolf was killed in accordance with the fifth decree of the Tyrolean state government. This is the first recording under the new regulation option. The country announced this in a broadcast on Sunday.
After confirmed breakage events in Prägarten municipality, the fifth shooting permit has been in effect since mid-May. The accompanying measures regulation expires with immediate effect after the shooting has taken place. The hunters have already been informed. The killed animal is then taken to the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) in Innsbruck for examination.
There are still six launch permits pending
“This first shot is an important signal,” said Deputy Governor Josef Geisler, who thanked the fighters for their intensive efforts and asked for their continued help. “Our primary goal is to protect our alpine agriculture. This is of great importance not only for agriculture, but also for biodiversity, protection against natural disasters and tourism.”
Six wolf shooting permits are still valid in Tyrol, four of which are in East Tyrol. About 90 grazing animals have already been killed in wolf attacks this year and another 150 are missing.
