On Sunday, a fire broke out in the asylum seekers’ center in St. Urban (Carinthia). The residents managed to get to safety, but now have no shelter.
Heavy smoke developed on Sunday in the asylum seekers’ home in St. Urban, where a fire broke out in a room next to the kitchen. “The fire started in the refrigerator,” says mayor Dietmar Rauter. About 50 residents were unharmed.
But they don’t have fifteen minutes left. Rauter: “The house is currently uninhabitable.” Water pipes were also damaged in the fire.
Immediately after the fire, alternative accommodations were sought. “I have made contact with the country. If they don’t find anything, we’ll set up the cultural hall for tonight.” It is now clear that some families in St. Urban can live in private households, while others are provided with shelter by the state.
