Hope she is insured. But at the time of the rescue, the issue of cost was certainly secondary. In the Salzkammergut in Upper Austria, a hiker fell so badly that only a rescue by helicopter made sense.
The 64-year-old from the Wels-Land district made a mountain tour with her husband on Sunday from Taferlklaussee to the Hochleckenhaus, on to the Brunnkogel and back again. While descending the marked hiking trail at around 2:45 p.m., the woman tripped and fell.
She suffered a profusely bleeding head wound and abrasions to her knee. Climbers who followed provided first aid and alerted emergency services. The injured were rescued by the emergency helicopter “Christophorus 99” at the Bergetau and flown to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Bad Ischl.
