You don’t see something like this every day – many motorists were certainly surprised when a kangaroo hopped across the roadway of the L 1254 on Sunday morning. The escaped animal was recaptured after an extensive search and a long chase.
Just last week, excitement was high when a roaming lioness near Berlin was suspected. It later turned out that it was just a wild boar. An exotic animal was spotted in Lower Austria on Sunday, albeit a less dangerous one.
Already at 08:00 the first motorists sounded the alarm because of a roaming kangaroo. The exotic animal was spotted on the L 1254 track at the district boundary between Wiedendorf and Ronthal. The police immediately moved out and searched the area, but without success.
Kangaroo surprises woman in her own garden
The kangaroo was sighted again around 5:30 PM. A woman was quite shocked when the animal suddenly appeared in her garden in Bösendürnbach. However, her dog chased the unwanted guest away again and fled to the nearby forest.
Animal found and captured
Another large-scale search was launched and the animal was eventually found in an adjacent thistle field next to LB 35. The troops of the Bösendürnbach volunteer fire brigade supported the police patrol to prevent the animal from escaping into the forest.
The kangaroo was sedated by a veterinarian and, after veterinary care, was handed over unharmed to a kangaroo farm operator. The owner from the Tulln district could now be identified.
