The start of the new week started in Linz with protests from the last generation. The climate protectors stuck in two locations at once, blocking early traffic.
The climate crisis does not take a summer vacation and neither does the last generation. In Linz, they got stuck on Unionstrasse and Waldeggerstrasse on Monday morning and at least stopped traffic for a short time. They again demand that the cabinet implement the recommendations of the Climate Council, which have been in force since mid-2022.
“Can’t Look Any Longer!”
Florian (38), data analyst and father, is glued to the asphalt: “We are currently at 1.2 degrees of global warming and can see the consequences of this already – also here in Austria. What does our world look like at 2, 3 or 4 degrees? I can no longer stand idly by while we face this catastrophe. The government must finally act and implement the proposals of the climate council.”
“Dark Future”
Paul is glued next to him. The 19-year-old math student joins another protest: “I cannot understand why the government does not want to implement even the simplest and cheapest measures, such as 100 km/h, to reduce pollutant emissions, despite the already noticeable consequences of the climate crisis. We must act now, because the longer we hesitate, the bleaker our future looks.”
According to police, no incidents occurred during the approximately 30-minute roadblocks.
