Measured in Lower Austria – 25 degrees: Holy Saturday is the first day of summer in the country

Holy Saturday is now officially the first day of summer in 2024. In the early afternoon, Geosphere Austria recorded the 25 degrees reached at the weather station Oberndorf an der Melk (Scheibbs district), which is by definition crucial for a summer day.

Summer days are rare in March in Austria and last occurred in 2021, 2017, 2016, 2006, 2004, 1990, 1989, 1981, 1977, 1974, 1968, 1955 and 1953. In an average year, the first day of summer falls in mid-April .

Summer days in March are rare
The earliest summer day in Austria’s history was recorded on March 18, 2004 (25.3 degrees in Pottschach, Lower Austria), according to Geosphere Austria.

However, it was not only warm in Oberndorf on Holy Saturday. Maximum temperatures of 24 degrees were also measured in Upper Austria and Vorarlberg.
