Around 10.15 am the local was on the Gerlossstraße towards Zell am Ziller. “The man left the road to the right for unknown reasons and hit a road marking and the crash barrier,” police said. The car then skidded a few feet along the guardrail and then fell down a steep slope into the woods. The car then crashed into a tree trunk.
Witness administered first aid
A witness to the accident alerted the emergency services and provided first aid. “The 86-year-old was flown by ambulance helicopter to the hospital in Hall,” said the management. In addition to the police, the Gerlos volunteer fire brigade was also present with two vehicles, the Gerlos mountain rescue service, a rescue vehicle and a rescue manager.
