Police in Australia have released 13 minors as part of an investigation into a pedophile gang. In addition, 19 men were charged with child abuse. The suspects are between 32 and 81 years old, it said on Tuesday.
According to the Australian Federal Police, the men exchanged or created child sexual abuse material on the dark web. According to the information, some of the released children had been abused, others were taken to safety by investigators out of caution.
Critical lead from the FBI
The Australian police got the information about the platform from the FBI. The American research agency launched an international investigation after two FBI agents were killed in 2021 investigating the network in the United States.
The Australian police have been campaigning against the group for the past year under the name “Operation Bakis”. Since then, two men have reportedly been convicted. Some of the defendants are accused of producing their own abuse images for the network. Many of the defendants are said to be well-versed in information technology because of their jobs. In the US, the FBI investigation led to the arrest of 79 suspects for possible involvement in the network.
