“Crown” for flood victims – Dramatic scenes: “The mudslide rolled towards us”

Date:

Purposeful optimism, desperation, resignation – on day 2 after the storm, the cleanup work is in full swing. The “Krone” spoke to some of those affected during a local inspection.

“Terrible. We have no idea how to proceed. Fortunately, my husband and I live on the first floor,” says Maria Tarkush from Kühnsdorf with tears in her eyes, while the fire brigade is still pumping the water from the ground floor . “It was almost a meter high here – we can now throw out all the cupboards and boxes.” Your basement and car are still flooded.

Village innkeeper Hannelore Kristof has a similar picture: “We have three pumps in use and the water is still up to the second basement staircase. Luckily nothing happened in the restaurant. Big thanks to the emergency services!”

In Neuhaus, the Jeuschnigger family has already won the battle against the water in their flooded Patekmühle farm museum – but the mud is the problem here. Just like on the Ruhstatt, where a mudslide hit the house of the Olschan family with full force. The masses of earth reach up to the windows on the ground floor.

“The basement is full of mud up to the ceiling,” says Walter Olschan, whose parents were in the yard when the mudslide went down. “Suddenly she rolled towards us. We got to safety in front of the house.” Florianis from Lower Austria now helps the family with excavators to remove the mud masses.

Regina G. in Eberndorf, who is currently without hot water, is also desperate. “We’ve never had water in the basement during a storm. When I got up on Saturday, I got hit. The water was almost to the bottom of the basement. We pumped for three days. I pray it’s not all broken …”
