In the car were a 38-year-old Swede and four Syrian nationals. They drove late Wednesday evening in the pouring rain on the western highway towards Vienna. At Eberstalzell, the driver lost control of the wheel.
The heavy rain caused the car to skid and flip over. It then came to rest on the first and second lanes.
Emergency services freed the injured
Some occupants were unable to get out of the car independently after the accident and had to be freed by the emergency services. All five people in the crowded car were injured. According to information from the Red Cross, one person was seriously injured. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.
