An FBI delegation from the United States will arrive in the country in the next few hours to assist with the investigation. The six arrested for their alleged involvement have gone to prison.
Ecuador is in a state of emergency for 60 days after the attack at the national level assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio. The President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, yesterday signed the decrees establishing the exceptional situation and proclaiming three days of mourning.
The state of exception provides for the mobilization of the armed forces for the “re-establishment of public order” with the aim of “strengthening internal control”, the suspension of the right to the inviolability of the home throughout the territory and the suspension of the inviolability of the correspondence sent or received.
Meanwhile, the investigation into authorship and clarification of the facts continues. Indeed, a delegation from the feds from the United States will arrive in Ecuador in the next few hours to support the investigation. The FBI’s arrival in Ecuador was confirmed by Lasso yesterday.
Moreover, an Ecuadorian judge ordered this on Thursday entry into custody of the six arrested by the police as suspects, all of Colombian nationality, of the instigators of Villavicencio’s murder. The six were arrested several hours after the murder in several house searches during which several firearms were found, including a rifle, a submachine gun, four pistols and three grenades.
According to Ecuadorian authorities, a seventh man who died after being wounded in the shootout between the attackers and security personnel guarding Villavicencio was also Colombian.
Doubts about “Los Lobos”
As the arrests were made, things went viral on social media a video of unknown origin where a large group of heavily armed hooded men appeared and declared themselves members of the criminal gang “Los Lobos” and claimed responsibility for the murder of Villavicencio and threatened another candidate: Jan Topic.
This was answered by another movie also viral and also of unknown origin where another group of men, dressed in white and with their face uncovered, similarly claimed to be members of “Los Lobos” and denied the attack on Villavicencio.
