Bogot., March 28 (EFE) – Colombian immigration authorities have arrested 35 people from Cuba on false visas at Bogotას El Dorado International Airport over the weekend while they were transiting from the island to Central America.
According to Migración Colombia, in special control and verification operations, 35 Cuban nationals were found to have fake Colombian transit visas.
The foreigners, at the request of the Colombian immigration authority, presented visas that “prove violations that allowed them to be identified as fake,” authorities said in a statement Monday.
Of the 35 detainees, including a minor, 30 were not taken and deported to the “immediate island”, while four of the remaining five were handed over to the competent authority for prosecution for forgery of a public document. .
In the case of a juvenile, he was transferred to the Columbia State Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF) to restore his rights.
As the Cubans themselves told the island’s local media, they left Havana and stopped in Colombia, Panama or Nicaragua, for their final destination. The Cubans condemned that they did not have a visa problem to leave Cuba, but they did have problems arriving in Colombia.
In a statement to the digital portal 14ymedio, they say that their visas were managed and paid for online through relatives living abroad. To date, no travelers have sought political asylum in Colombia.
The incident comes a month after Colombian authorities gave safe behavior to Cuban journalist Yalen Insoa Alarcon, whose final destination was Managua, but remained in Eldorado for almost two weeks before Colombian authorities finally settled the documents.
In the case of the journalist, he condemned that his life was in danger if he returned to Cuba, for which he left the country in search of protection.
Social demonstrations against the government have increased in Cuba in recent months, followed by a harsh response from the authorities, followed by repression of opponents by complaints from civil society organizations.
