Donald Trump is now serious: from 1 August he wants to explain goods from the countries of the European Union – including Austria – by 30 percent. This would export a sensitive damper.
As Trump announced on his “Truth Social” platform, the new rates for importing goods into the United States must apply from 1 August.
EU hoped for trading pact
The EU had hoped for an extensive trade agreement with the US. Trump had already announced new rates for a number of countries, including Japan, South Korea, Canada and Brazil. He also wants a habit of 50 percent on copper.
This can mean a sensitive damper for the EU countries export industry. However, Trump had repeatedly imposes threatened rates and then to postpone it or to have removed measures that have already been imposed.
Response to new EU tax?
Trump’s announcement can be partially related to the new tax planned by the EU for large companies, including American technological giants such as Apple or Meta. The US president had repeatedly criticized the EU technology groups regulating.
