After an arrest hearing against six “legal rockers” who were taken into custody at the end of June following house searches in Upper and Lower Austria for possession of weapons, drugs and Nazi memorabilia, a suspect was released by the Ried regional court on Friday.
He had been given “strict conditions”, the spokesman for the public prosecutor, Alois Ebner, confirmed in an online message in the “Kurier”.
That man played a “minor role”, which is why he was released against “more gentle means”. Now he has to report to the police regularly and is not allowed to have any contact with the crime scene. The detention of the other five suspects was extended until October 11, Ebner continued. Among them is likely a “very senior leader” of the former neo-Nazi group “Object 21”.
investigations are underway
The investigation in Ried is still ongoing on suspicion of violation of the Prohibition Act, the War Materials and Weapons Act and the Narcotics Act. According to the spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office, no final report from the police is yet available and therefore nothing can be said about a possible charge.
Weapons worth 1.5 million euros
Since 2021, investigations have been ongoing against members of a motorcycle club and a former neo-Nazi group. During house searches in Upper and Lower Austria in the early morning of June 26, security authorities seized hundreds of firearms worth about 1.5 million euros. The director spoke of a “sustainable blow to organized motorcycle crime”.
