In Lend in the Salzburger Pinzgau, a rafting boat capsized on the Salzach shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday. All nine occupants – four adults, four children and a rafting guide – fell into the river and floated away. They could be saved.
The occupants were all able to swim to shore or were rescued from the water. “All rafters wore life jackets, helmets and wetsuits,” says Markus Gewolf of the water rescue service. Apart from minor injuries, the participants in the tour – according to initial information holidaymakers from Italy and Germany – should have escaped unharmed. The Salzach currently carries a little more water, but not nearly as much mud as in recent days.
The man went missing for a short time
One of the rafters was rescued from a hurricane by another rafting boat. Because this could not be reported immediately, the man was considered missing for a short time.
Large-scale deployment of rescuers needed
On Friday, about 80 people were present, half of them from the water rescue service. During the rescue operation, the western railway line, which partly ran along the river, was closed for safety reasons.
