North Korean leader Kim Jong-un wants to expand missile production. “The quality level of war preparations depends on the development of the munitions industry,” he says.
Domestic production of missiles would be demanded by the arms industry. Reinforced frontline and missile units, as well as plans for military deployment, have necessitated the mass production of missiles, Kim said Monday through state-controlled media. An important goal is to expand the existing production capacity.
Visits to the arms industry
The ruler is said to have inspected larger arms factories on Friday and Saturday. These include a tactical missile facility and one for missile vehicles with launchers and rocket launcher ammunition. The United States and its allies South Korea and Japan see the country as a threat because of the country’s nuclear weapons program. International sanctions were therefore thrown over the country.
Kim Jong-un has been visiting arms factories more often recently and, at a meeting of the Central Military Commission, called on the ruling Labor Party to better prepare for a war on the Korean peninsula.
Nuclear missiles
Tension between North and South Korea is rising. After several rounds of missile tests last year, North Korea has tested nuclear missiles several times this year. In addition, the US and South Korea agreed in April to strengthen their military cooperation and expand joint military exercises
