According to the North Korean defense minister, it is now “impossible” to resolve the conflict through dialogue or negotiations.
North Korean Defense Minister Kang Sun-nam on Tuesday accused the United States of bringing the Korean peninsula to the brink of nuclear war and ruled out negotiations to resolve the conflict at this point.
“Since the beginning of the year, the US has moved large quantities of strategic nuclear weapons to South Korea, including a nuclear submarine, a strategic bomber and a nuclear strike group carrier,” Kang said at the 11th Moscow Security Conference. International.
According to the minister, the question now is “not when a nuclear war will start on the Korean peninsula, but who will start it, how and when”.
Nevertheless, according to Kang, it is now ‘impossible’ to resolve the conflict through dialogue or negotiations.
“As long as the US does not recognize the utter failure of its hostile policy towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and forever renounces (…) its policy of military antagonism with our Republic, the resolution of any problem through dialogue will or negotiation not possible,” he assured.
It further indicates that under the current circumstances, “force alone is the only way to maintain peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula”.
Tension between the two Koreas is at one of its most critical points as a result of the Pyongyang government’s numerous weapons tests since last year, including its most advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles.
An upswing and additional tests are not ruled out ahead of the approaching celebration this month of joint military exercises between Seoul and Washington, which the North Korean regime regards as a mock invasion of its territory.
