A tragic accident took place shortly after noon on Wednesday at the Ötztal-Bahnhof in the Tyrolean Oberland. A cyclist (77) was hit by a tractor with a trailer. A tractor driver had tried to pass the woman on a steep and narrow road.
The 58-year-old driver of the tractor was driving on a municipal road around 12:30 p.m. The woman came to meet him on her bicycle. To let the woman pass, the 58-year-old stopped his tractor on a curve. When the cyclist also stopped, he drove past her at a walking pace.
The tractor driver saw in the rearview mirror how the cyclist fell
When the man looked in the rearview mirror a little later, he saw the 77-year-old fall. The tractor driver braked immediately, but was unable to prevent the cyclist from being run over by a tire on the trailer. The man immediately called 911 and provided first aid. But there was no rescue for the 77-year-old, she died at the scene of the accident.
