The top candidates for the state elections in Styria on November 29 – very personal: Sandra Krautwaschl (53), leader of the Styrian Green Party, reminisces while mowing with a scythe.
First, the knife needs to be sharpened. Sandra Krautwaschl chases away the chicken “Rosa” and starts mowing. ‘The scythe must sweep over the ground. “With the right technology, it’s easy,” says the club chairman of the Styrian Greens. “Since we’ve been doing this, we’ve had a lot more insects and birds in the garden.”
Krautwaschl lives in a real gem. The garden gate of the old farmhouse in Gratwein-Straßengel is surrounded by a rose bush and the cats “Seppi” and “Meri” flutter between the house and the stable. The 52-year-old politician has lived here with her husband Peter Rabensteiner since 2001; her three children have already moved out. Bunches of herbs hang to dry in front of the entrance. “We never really renovated the house,” she says. “Only the windows are new.”
