After a 24-year-old followed a young woman halfway through the city in mid-March and allegedly abused her in the Jägerstrasse metro station, charges against the suspect have now been filed with the regional criminal court.
Spokeswoman Christina Salzborn confirmed this on Monday. There is already a date for a hearing. The Tunisian must answer to a jury on September 12, Salzborn said.
After going to the disco
The accused acts took place on the morning of March 18 in Brigittenau. The 26-year-old woman had been partying at the U4 discotheque and then took the metro home – without noticing that the suspect who had abused her at the disco was following her.
The Tunisian also left the bar around 5 a.m., first sat with the woman in a U4 carriage and then, just like the 26-year-old, switched to the U6, according to images from the Wiener Linien surveillance cameras.
Bullied in the subway
Completely unexpected for her, the 24-year-old in the U6 set again approached her, as before on the dance floor in the disco, harassed her and sought her physical proximity. The victim rejected him. She deliberately tried to strike up a conversation with a couple to distract the pushy suspect. In the end, she even changed cars.
Passersby rushed to help
But the man was not shaken. At their destination, Jägerstrasse station, according to the indictment, the 24-year-old ripped them to the ground right after the station area with the intent to abuse them and forcefully forced them to tolerate sexual acts, according to the indictment. The 26-year-old was injured. Passers-by finally noticed what was going on and rushed to help the woman. The suspect fled.
Witness prosecuted 24-year-old
However, he was followed by a witness, overtaken and caught so that he could be apprehended by the police. As it has now become apparent, the Tunisian had already been deported from Austria once because of the lack of a residence permit.
