A skeleton of the dinosaur species Deinonychus antirrhopus fetched $12.4 million at auction in the US. The price of the bones offered by auction house Christie’s and approximately 110 million years old clearly exceeded expectations of four to six million dollars.
The dinosaur also has a big brother in Hollywood: the makers of the successful film “Jurassic Park” designed the “Velociraptor” after the dinosaur that was found in the US state of Montana.
However, Deinonychus was significantly smaller than the bloodthirsty blockbuster dino. The carnivore’s skeleton, which is now up for auction, measures more than three meters because of its long tail, but is only 1.58 meters high.
