Konrad Plautz became famous as a referee and officiated numerous international matches. Now the Tyrolean has found a new calling. He was ordained a deacon on September 2. The “Krone” met him in his home parish of Navis and talked to him about childhood dreams, God and his interlude in politics.
“Going to church every day before school – that was just part of it when I was young,” laughs Konrad Plautz (58). He knows how old fashioned that sounds. That’s 50 years ago. No eternity. But at that time faith still shaped everyday life in quiet Navis east of the Wipptal. It was “a world trip” to Innsbruck, 35 kilometers away. The city was not for the boy from Navistal. Therefore, he gave up early on his childhood dream of studying theology and becoming a pastor.
