261-week strike – Thunberg wants “radical climate protection”

Date:

Ahead of the fifth anniversary of her climate strike, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg has called for a stronger fight against the climate crisis and further pressure from the street. There is only one way out of the misery: radical climate protection.

“Even though we have shown time and time again that we are demanding change with millions around the world, the world is not moving in the right direction,” the 20-year-old wrote on Twitter (X) and Instagram on Friday.

Emissions of climate-damaging gases continue to rise and planetary tipping points are approaching faster than previously expected. According to Thunberg, there is only one way out of this situation. “We urgently need radical climate protection to save what can still be saved and to minimize the catastrophic consequences of the climate crisis that people are already experiencing,” said the Swede.

Thunberg wants to continue the fight against “profit and greed”.
The pressure of the Fridays for Future climate movement is needed. “We must keep the pressure up and not allow those in power to sacrifice people and the planet for profit and greed.”

The climate activist’s post on her upcoming birthday:

As a 15-year-old girl, Thunberg first sat down in front of the Swedish parliament in Stockholm on August 20, 2018 to protest for more climate protection – this Sunday was five years ago. Within a few months their ‘school strike for the climate’ developed into the international climate movement Fridays for Future, which has since pushed for stricter measures to protect the climate in many countries.

Thunberg himself graduated from school this summer, but continues to protest for the climate on Friday – now for the 261st week in a row.
