Black clouds of smoke above the Pyramidenkogel in Carinthia: Several fire brigades are currently fighting a house fire in Linden in the municipality of Keutschach. Due to a lack of water, the fire brigade had to drill into the municipality’s drinking water wells.

The comrades were alerted around 05:30 on Saturday morning. “First there was a garage fire, but now the whole house is on fire,” reports the national warning center. According to the police, all residents of the parental home were rescued. A woman is shocked, probably a firefighter was injured during the fire attack.

Heimo Paulitsch of the volunteer fire brigade of Keutschach am Wörthersee reports that the annex was already completely engulfed in flames when the emergency services arrived: “The fire probably broke out in the annex.” There would be a wood chip heater in it. , which is why there is now no heating and no hot water in several houses in the area. Because there was not enough extinguishing water, other fire brigades had to be alerted.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, the police are investigating as soon as the fire can be extinguished. “The comrades are currently busy with post-extinguishing work.” The house can no longer be entered because the ceiling is heavily damaged and threatens to collapse.

The weirs Keutschach, Reifnitz, Schiffling, Velden am Wörthersee, Viktring-Stein/Neudorf, among others, are in action. The road to the Pyramidenkogel is closed due to the operation.

Mayor Gerhard Oleschko has also been at the scene of the fire since the morning hours: “It is bad what happened here! Thank God no one was injured.” The homeowners are psychologically badly affected by the devastating fire.

Don’t drink water in Keutschach until Monday
With water supplies running low, firefighters had to tap into the community’s drinking water sources. “As a precaution, I therefore ask all residents of the municipality until Monday not to use the water as drinking water or to cook,” the mayor said. There is no immediate danger, but it could be contaminated. “The water will be checked immediately on Monday morning!”

Cranes will probably also be needed to secure hazardous areas: “We may need to remove a few things that could be dangerous.”
