Practicing Renunciation – Sudden Silence: Three Weeks Without a Smartphone

Date:

Two 18-year-old women voluntarily gave up the internet, social media, shopping and sugar for three weeks and retreated to a convent. You survived.

The two friends and classmates Ida Kinzel and Lea Arabadzic have made a kind of journey through time. As part of a graduation thesis for their vocational school (Riedenburg) they dared to try it on themselves, which probably does not sound very tempting to many: for three weeks they would have to refrain from any activity on social media, on the internet, music from the internet, on Google, on YouTube, pretty much everything a cell phone has to offer. So a smartphone just became a phone, a simple phone – somehow unsexy. Or not?
