According to a media report, billionaire Elon Musk last year informed the US Department of Defense about a face-to-face meeting with Russian head of state Vladimir Putin.
In a recent report, the New Yorker magazine refers to two senior Pentagon officials. The conversation was actually about the use of the StarLink internet satellite system by the Ukrainian armed forces – the conversation is said to have influenced Musk’s view of the war and the use of the internet system.
Straight through SpaceX internet for Ukraine
At the beginning of the Russian war of aggression, the founding father of Ukraine provided the appropriate collection systems and used them for free. Later, however, Musks SpaceX apparently no longer wanted to pay for the operation of the terminals. Musk is said to have told Pentagon employees about a conversation with Putin, the magazine continues.
In the end, SpaceX eventually agreed to let Ukraine keep the StarLink terminals up and running – the US Department of Defense eventually stepped in to fund it.
Speaking of space travel
There were reports in the fall that the tech billionaire and the Kremlin boss had a conversation, but Musk denied this. “I have only spoken to Putin once and that was eighteen months ago,” the entrepreneur wrote in one of his tweets at the time. However, this conversation should only have been about space travel.
Exactly when the alleged further conversation with Putin should have taken place and what exactly it was about remains unclear in the ‘New Yorker’. All it says is that Musk spoke of a “great conversation with Putin.”
Musk End of War Proposals
During the conversation, Musk would also have made suggestions for resolving the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. For example, that Putin renounces the Crimean peninsula or holds referenda in Russian-occupied areas.
