From now on, those affected in Austria can also report online against unknown perpetrators. The new tool should allow you to do this from the comfort of your own home if immediate police intervention is not required.
To further promote digitization in Austria, a new online tool should now also make it easier for those affected to report theft. The new online form can be completed on the BMI website.
You can then choose between the selection field “Send” or “Collection”. With ‘send’, the confirmation of the report comes from the police station by post or digitally via the electronic delivery mailbox. You can pick up the confirmation in person if you select ‘Pick up’.
Exception to the driver’s license
There are exceptions in the case of a stolen driver’s license or registration certificate. The theft confirmation can only be collected in person if the report confirmation is used as a replacement document.
Only possible online in certain cases
However, the LPD Vienna emphasizes that the online report is by no means intended for cases in which direct police intervention is necessary or when traces must be secured or the perpetrator is known.
