The Russian president has been indifferent to the plane crash that killed Yevgeny Prigozhin at the summit and has made no statement about it.
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin went ahead with his official agenda this Thursday, oblivious to the plane crash that claimed the life of his former ally Yevgeni Prigozhin, head of the Wagner group.
Putin appeared before the summit of BRICS leaders via video conference and stuck to the script.
The Russian president is the only BRICS leader not to attend the meeting in South Africa after the International Criminal Court (ICC) alerted him to alleged war crimes committed in Ukraine.
The Russian government has not yet issued an official verdict on Prigozhin’s death. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, present at the BRICS summit, has also avoided making any statements on the matter and dodging possible questions about the circumstances of the accident.
