In Upper Austria, more than 300 young people are convicted by the courts every year. For a third, an initial ‘finger tap’ had no effect; they repeatedly became conspicuous and committed crimes. Politicians are now suggesting that parents will also have to pay in the future.
Every day that justice is administered in the regional courts in Upper Austria, on average at least one young person is convicted! In 2022 – this is the most recent data evaluated – 322 boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 17 were legally convicted. And 36 percent of them have not been convicted for the first time, which means they are repeat offenders. These figures have been very comparable for years.
