A shock moment for a mountain climber who was on the road in Ebensee on Thursday morning. During the ascent, he found the lifeless body of a fellow mountaineer. He must have fallen dead shortly before.
The 48-year-old mountaineer from St. Wolfgang was walking in the area of the Großer Totengraben in the Höllengebirge near Ebensee around 9:30 am when he found a lifeless person,
The alpinist immediately called the emergency call for the mountain rescue – the police helicopter Libelle was then sent from Linz to take a policewoman to the scene of the accident. This allowed the identity of the victim to be clarified on the spot and the rescue operation to be started.
The victim was traveling alone
The victim is a 70-year-old from Hohenzell near Ried im Innkreis. He had left alone in the morning and the accident must have happened shortly before his discovery. The alpinist was climbing, but must have missed the path – which is sometimes hard to find according to forum posts – and ended up in impassable and steep terrain. That’s where he crashed. He traveled alone, so no one noticed the accident.
