Major damage worth millions – professional crooks only stole Benz, BMW and Land Rover

Date:

Within a few weeks in October and November 2023, a group of Polish perpetrators stole seven expensive new Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Land Rover vehicles from a major vehicle logistics company in the Perg district of Upper Austria. A Turkish employee of the company helped them. The trio is in custody.

On October 27, 2023, initially unknown perpetrators stole two expensive new Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover vehicles from the premises of a major vehicle logistics company. Further investigation revealed that three Mercedes-Benz vehicles (G-Class) had already been stolen unnoticed on October 11, 2023. Investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department (LKA) Upper Austria, burglary department, showed that the perpetrators were supported in carrying out the crime by a 40-year-old Turkish employee of the damaged company.

Accomplice opened the entrance gates
In his role, the employee had access to the parking lots and opened the entrance gates for his accomplices. Only then were the perpetrators able to remove the vehicles from the company premises. At the end of November 2023, the accomplice wanted to go to Turkey with his wife. However, his escape was prevented just in time and the suspect was arrested by officers of the LKA Upper Austria on the orders of the Linz public prosecutor.

The Poles continued to steal
Just a week later, on November 29, 2023, two of his accomplices, both Polish citizens and 26 years old at the time of the crime, stole two more Mercedes-Benz and BMW luxury vehicles from the vehicle logistics company’s premises. This time without the support of a company employee. However, the perpetrators were observed not far from the crime scene by a traffic patrol from the Perg police station who happened to be driving by as they were about to install fake license plates on the two stolen vehicles, it later emerged. When the two perpetrators noticed the police patrol, they immediately fled on foot to an adjacent forest area. The perpetrators left the two stolen vehicles at the location with the vehicle doors open and the engines running.

Two cars have been returned
Ultimately, officers managed to arrest the two fugitives as part of a large-scale manhunt, which also included the deployment of a BMI police helicopter. The perpetrators were also taken to the correctional facility of the Linz Regional Court on the orders of the Linz Public Prosecutor’s Office. The two stolen vehicles, with a total sales price of more than 300,000 euros, were returned undamaged to the company in question.

Trio awaits trial behind bars
The Turk and former employee of the damaged company and the two Poles are currently in custody in Linz prison awaiting trial. Most of them confessed during the interrogations. Intensive investigations are underway into other direct accomplices and those behind the crime. The whereabouts of the other five stolen vehicles have not yet been determined. The investigation into this is also still ongoing.
