More than a hundred weapons, including pistols, cutting and stabbing weapons, various war materials and five-figure amounts of ammunition were seized on Tuesday during a large-scale operation by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. Searches were carried out in six states. An arrest took place.
Emergency services in Styria, Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol and Burgenland carried out several house searches in the early morning hours on Tuesday. The action was ordered by the Prosecutor’s Office and implemented by the Directorate of State Security and Intelligence Services, together with the State Offices for the Protection of the Constitution and for Counterterrorism.
Prohibited weapons, ammunition and war materials were seized at a total of eleven targets. A provisional ban on weapons was issued to numerous suspects and those involved. A suspect was arrested on the spot and transferred to a cell complex.
“By seizing a large number of illegal weapons, a source of danger to security in our country could be eliminated,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP).
