Volkswagen confirms that it has been assigned a supplier to assemble the batteries

However, the management has confirmed to the works council that no contract has yet been signed.

Volkswagen Navarra management today confirmed to employees that there is “a nominated or assigned supplier” to carry out the battery assembly work for the electric models from the Landaben plant. However, he has indicated that he still is no contract has been signed.

This morning’s meeting was held at the request of the works council of the Navarra factory, following the announcement last week that Hyundai Mobis would take over the role of battery supplier. So far they had not received any confirmation from management.

As CCOO noted after the meeting, the management of the Navarra plant explained to them that the Volkswagen plant “has always considered the battery plant as part of the purchase” and that there is a project “ready” to be implemented. However, he wanted to make it clear that despite the fact that there is an assigned supplier, “the contracts are still not signed”.

The union explained at the meeting that the battery factory was “an important part of the electric car industrial project, to have control over this part, because of the jobs it generates, because it adds more value to the vehicle and remains competitive. Without this piece, the industrial project remains incomplete,” he warned.

On the other hand, CCOO has reported that it has requested management to postpone the completion of the Paal until 2024. “It is important that we continue to produce the Polo in sufficient volumes through 2024 so that we do not have to sit still for days and make the transition better.”
