The investigation into a wild gun chase in St. Johann in Tirol lasted until May a year ago. Then it was the turn of Justice. There they are extremely taciturn when asked about “Krone”.
It has been exactly 365 days since the police fired a shot in St. Johann. As a reminder, at 5 a.m. on August 26, 2022, a suspicious van was targeted by officials in Wörgl. The vehicle was reported stolen two days earlier. In the car were three youths – two 14-year-old locals and a 13-year-old Russian. When they saw the police officers, they pressed the accelerator. The ensuing pursuit continued as far as St. Johann, over 30 kilometers away.
Carinthian policemen investigated the case
The boys’ escape ended on the track. The van blew a tire there. The officials should have taken it as a shot. Two police officers allegedly fired nine bullets at the vehicle. One of the two 14-year-olds was injured when the shot was fired, but survived.
The big question that arose afterwards: were the shots of the two officers who were allowed to remain on duty justified? As usual in such cases, the investigations were carried out by criminals from another state – in this case Carinthia.
The investigation ended at the end of May, and the ministry has been involved ever since
The Innsbruck Public Prosecutor’s Office was also involved. The “Tiroler Krone” repeatedly contacted its spokesman, Hansjörg Mayr, to ask about the results. “There are still several reports missing” or “the clerk is still working on the case” was the message time and time again. Finally, Mayr said on May 25 that “the investigation is over. The project report will go to the Ministry of Justice”.
The Ministry of Justice is extremely silent
He was not allowed to say what was in the project report. When asked on Thursday, Mayr said that “the report is still with the Justice Department” and referred to the department’s spokeswoman in charge, Sina Bründler.
This said to the “Tiroler Krone” only succinctly: “As always, we cannot provide information about the content and the time horizon.” The case is becoming more and more an endless story.
